Why do people in general, and especially the art and design community, seem to take gates for granted?

When a person wants to look for ideas to decorate their home (or at least, have the luxury to do so), the smart thing to do is look to other people for ideas. After all, nowadays it seems like there is a magazine or any sort of relevant publication, be it a magazine, a specialty e-zine for even the obscurest of markets. There is a magazine for everything. Interior Decorating and home furnishing is a very big industry, with accessible household brands like IKEA and more specialist designer furniture brands flourishing even under the relatively rough economic climate.

A quick look at most available design resources reveal that entrance gates are apparently not much of a thing. Almost always, the most these design publications or magazines would do is the occasional gardening feature, or a feature about landscape architecture. Little did they mention about the fences. Interior decorating arguably has more design elements that designers love to work with, but it’s undeniable that fences are very much a part of home decorating that must be taken into consideration. Even in the construction of this writer’s home, getting the fences was just an afterthought after all the decorating and renovations were done; which in hindsight is a shame especially whenever I see gorgeous homes with fences that accentuate the entirety of the house’s design. It’s high time that people break free from the huge and character less steel sheets we usually pass off as fences, and integrate them more into helping our homes make an even more formidable impression.

Now this lack of educational material about how fences can be used to improve a house’s design puts non-design everyday Joes at a disadvantage, since they – we have to exert extra effort into researching what sort of entrance would look great with our home. This also presents an opportunity for manufacturers of these products an extra edge in their markets, kind of what gates Ireland is doing.

The website or company just doesn’t sell gates – they create better houses. Aside from having products and structures worthy of inclusion into contemporary home design editorials – with types such as the Ashmount with its simple elegance, or the Classic type’s unassuming but graceful curves, and a personal favorite, the rustic looking Landsborough – each product comes with a write up on how each type of fence can help contribute to the beauty of your home. It may be wooden, garden, entrance gates or perhaps your driveway gates. The choice is up to you. With all the samples given in the websites, this certainly helps non design-savvy folks on which of these designs to pick to maximize the appeal, and ultimately, and most important of all, how we feel in our own homes.

And that begins by not taking fences for granted. There certainly are gorgeous types out there that could give the best impression to a home like yours.
